Swans migrate in their thousands, from Iceland and Arctic Russia. The males arrive here at Welney Wetland Centre on the Ouse washes in Norfolk, just north of Ely, while the females fly south to Spain. The birds are fed at night by floodlight which creates a mythological and surreal effect as though the swans are swimming in liquid mercury.
This print has been made on Japanese Kozo Paper. It's edges have been teased at the edges and the paper fibres become part of the over all aesthetic (see supporting image). Printed with a warm tone black and white, the blacks and dark tones have a beautiful sooty feel.
