Black and White Landscapes
Most of us inhabit an urban environment. Few of us venture forth into the landscape to explore and sense the elements. Once an image is made, landscape becomes art to the artist and the landscape art is presented to those that choose not to venture forth but choose to consume the image from their urban environment. The artist, in turn, seeks to understand the land, to translate the land as an aesthetic experience, present it as more than just a scene, viewed though a mechanical device. The landscape photograph captures a vision of what is sensuous, disturbing, spiritual, a play of light and power of natural forces. The photographer takes ownership of what lies before the camera as these converging sensibilities becomes captured forever, a small reflected moment in time of a small part of our planet in the ever expanding universe.
